DBS Checks…

Employers and Nanny Agencies often require Nannies to complete a fresh DBS check with each new employment. Historically, the DBS process can be time consuming, sometimes affecting the start date for employment.

The government’s DBS Update Service allows Nannies to keep their DBS certificate up to date and allows employers to check the Nannies certificate online. An employee would need to show their paper DBS certificate to their new employer and provide them with their certificate number.

With the certificate number, the employer is able to see the up to date status of their employee/prospective employee’s previous DBS check online and be assured that the details are unchanged and the paper DBS certificate shown is still valid.

At an annual cost of £13 per year for the service, it is a time and cost saving route (the standard Ofsted fee for an enhanced check is £57.55). Additionally, the Update Service could give potential candidates a crucial edge when applying for a new position, as they have an up to date DBS in place.
