Paternity Leave changes are nearly ready to take effect…
In August 2023 we notified you that following a consultation in 2019, The Department for Business and Trade (DBT) made plans to improve paternity leave.
The new Paternity Leave (Amendment) Regulations 2024 come into effect on 8th March 2024. However the changes apply where the expected week of birth begins AFTER 6th April 2024.
To recap the main changes are as follows:
- new parents can take leave in two non-consecutive periods of one week, or a single two-week block
- paternity leave can be taken within 52 weeks of birth (or placement when in relation to adoption)
- four weeks notice is to be given before taking paternity leave periods
Please note that these changes apply to England, Scotland and Wales, but not Northern Ireland, where employment law is devolved.
Taxing Nannies welcomes this move to a more equal system of parental leave and are hopeful for more positive changes in the future.
